Laurel Potter Huerta joined the staff of the Women Donors Network in the Spring of 2006. She is currently the Project Coordinator and manages a variety of WDN’s projects, including the development of our new website.

Laurel grew up in the Bay Area and graduated from UC Berkeley with degrees in English and Spanish & Portuguese. She has a wide range of experience in the field of education, in both the United States and internationally. Laurel spent her post-college years working and studying in Brazil and Spain, becoming fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. She is currently completing her doctoral dissertation in the Department of Education for the University of Barcelona. Her research focuses on low-income children’s educational experiences and local progressive education policy in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Specifically, her work examines children’s narratives of schooling and education in that context. Additionally, she has collaborated on a variety of education-focused research projects for the University of Barcelona, including a study on childhood and subjectivity and a study on the use of technology in the classroom.

Her experience also includes serving as a Director of Teacher Training and Development for a language school consortium in Rio de Janeiro. Prior to joining the Women Donors Network, Laurel worked as an educational consultant and tutor in the Silicon Valley, as a freelance translator, and as a research consultant for a multicultural children’s book project about environmental leaders.
