Featured Profile: Jean Karotkin
Jean Karotkin, a newcomer to WDN, is a Dallas based photographer who has built a career of capturing a woman’s spirit, power, and beauty through the lens of a camera. Because of her experience with breast cancer, Jean traveled across America photographing a diverse array of breast cancer survivors calling attention to their beauty, their sensuality, their sense of humor, and their unwavering commitment to the future. The collection of these images, Body and Soul: The Courage & Beauty of Breast Cancer Survivors, was published in 2003. With the creation of her uncle’s foundation in 2004, The Meyer Levy Charitable Foundation, Jean has been able to continue her support for women as well as children and families to fund and/or establish projects which provide medical assistance, food, and education on all levels. The Foundation has enabled Jean to meet many fascinating people, especially those involved with the struggles to save the environment including all creatures great and small.
Jean is now in the process of a rebirth of a new life after the caring for her aging parents of many years. She dreams big of a new future filled with new roots, new friends across the globe, continuing her passion for photography, and new adventures with travel.
