The Action Fund
Action Fund 1
Developing Intellectual Assets Action Fund
In 2003, responding to a growing desire among our members for a more significant way to flex WDN's considerable financial muscle in the service of progressive values, we created the WDN Action Fund. Designated for organizations sustaining the progressive movement in the areas of policy, media, research, and leadership, the first Action Fund grant was earmarked for the support of "think tank" development. In June 2005 the Action Fund named the Center for Community Change (CCC) in Washington, DC as recipient of its first million dollar grant.

The Center for Community Change (CCC) is a national organization whose mission is to build the power and capacity of low-income people, particularly people of color, to change the policies and institutions that affect their lives. Founded in 1968, the Center has developed an extraordinary record of supporting grassroots organizations through comprehensive technical assistance, and bringing those organizations together across lines of race, ethnicity, geography, gender and class to achieve major policy change. CCC is one of the few national social change organizations led by people of color whose staff and board are majority people of color. Today the Center for Community Change is helping grassroots groups join forces nationwide to raise a political and moral voice for social change. CCC works to:
- Build powerful organizations and coalitions in underserved constituencies and geographies, so people most affected by injustice gain the power to change it.
- Increase the political participation of low-income constituencies.
- Lead campaigns on issues of economic justice.
- Invest in new ideas to help motivate and unite the social change sector.
