What We Do
Election Integrity
Whether the villains are sinister or just inept, America cannot accept hackers hacking into voting machines, registered voters being turned away or votes being miscounted or discounted.
WDN Count Hackula Campaign
Who We Are
We were initially formed as an education circle, but after one audio conference in October of 2006, we became so concerned about election fraud that we raised $250,000 in less than a month. The Stop Count Hackula Campaign was born to take our non-partisan message of individual voter vigilance into some of the most hotly contested races around the country.
What We Do
Our efforts are part of a burgeoning national voting rights movement committed to restoring the integrity of our electoral system through the implementation of:
- Voter verified paper ballots as the legal ballot of record for all elections.
- Accurate recording, counting, and reporting of all votes cast.
- Random hand recounts that are part of routine audits.
- Consistent enforcement of election procedures to ensure that everyone who wants to vote can do so without difficulty and to prevent all forms of vote fraud.
- Public oversight (e.g. of voting machine software source code) and non-partisan administration of the election system.
In 2008, WDN’s Election Integrity Action Circle raised over $300,000 for a number of innovative election protection projects and some targeted voter engagement initiatives:
- Support for the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law's strategic communications plan to inform communities about the voting process and reform current laws and practices, including funding for the development of the interactive http://www.866ourvote.org/ website focused on providing accurate information on the voting process and key election updates and a paid advertising campaign to saturate urban radio and other minority media outlets with information about the resources of Election Protection.
- The Advancement Project's expansion of the development and distribution of instructional palm cards that list “10 Things Every Poll Worker Should Know” for poll workers in 20 states.
- GoVoteAbsentee.org, a website designed to help make absentee ballot requests easily accessible to young voters.
- Support for Generational Alliance, a project of the Tides Center, for their nationwide Trick-or-Vote youth voter engagement project and the post-election Youth Policy Summit in Oakland, California.

The Election Integrity Action Circle reflects WDN’s key theme of Civic Participation and Progressive Infrastructure: Strengthening our democratic institutions and community-based organizations to ensure that all people have the capacity to actively engage in shaping the policies that impact their lives. This is one of our seven key areas of work and study.
