WDN’s membership is comprised of women philanthropists who are united by a serious interest in progressive philanthropy, similar social and political values (as described in our Mission, Vision and Values policies), and mutual respect for individual choices and differences. WDN is a supportive community where the priority of members is to explore the personal and professional concerns that impact their philanthropy. Individuals who join WDN should be motivated by the above goals, and not by the opportunity to solicit other members.

Membership is open to women philanthropists who contribute a minimum of $25,000 on an annual basis to progressive nonprofit organizations, political candidates, issues and individuals;* and/or have direct influence over charitable giving of a minimum of $25,000 annually, averaged over a three year period. Members must give $25,000 annually, exclusive of funding that results from participation, influence or involvement on Boards or allocation committees of nonprofit intermediaries, community foundations, or other public charities. It is expected that WDN members will honor and self-monitor against the above criteria, to ensure that their personal goals are consistent with those of WDN.

* In this context, “individuals” refers to low-income people who are given financial aid, grants to further their work, scholarships, or personal gifts to level the playing field. “Individuals” does not refer to immediate family or personal friends, unless they fall into one of the above categories.
