Who We Are

The Racial Justice Working Group (RJWG) came together in 2008 in response to the Women Donors Network’s ongoing interest to incorporate a racial justice analysis at an institutional level.

WDN has a long history of working on racial justice issues. Early activities include programming at conferences, regional meetings, and special events. In 2008, three WDN members attended the Applied Research Center’s Facing Race conference. Following the conference we decided to conduct a survey of past and current WDN leaders to gauge interest, document lessons learned from past efforts, and collect suggestions for WDN regarding how to pursue our interest in racial justice.

What We Do

Committed to a process of peer-to-peer learning, collective brainstorming, and creative problem solving, the RJWG is dedicated to creating spaces for members to deepen their understanding and explore the possibilities of how we might collectively respond to persistent racial inequity through personal, institutional, and systemic change. We believe that together we can find ways to reflect our deepest held values in the outcomes of our work and our actions.

The RJWG works to support a WDN that has a culture and practice of striving to align our values with our actions such that we actively use our collective knowledge and resources to challenge systems of oppression.

Current projects include working at individual and institutional levels to meet member requests and needs through

  • Continued member surveys
  • Co-sponsored educational opportunities with existing circles
  • Regional events with a focus on issues of race, class, and gender
  • Building partnerships with other organizations working in the field of racial justice
