Who We Are

The Women Confronting Militarism Circle was formed in partnership with the Global Fund for Women to study women’s efforts worldwide to resist the increasing militarism of their communities and societies. Women and girls pay a heavy price for the staggering growth of militarism and increasing arms sales around the world and are “collateral damage” from all forms of violence. We will focus on the effective strategies women are using and can use to dismantle militarism, as well as how those strategies can be supported, shared, and implemented. We envision a movement of women leading solutions to end this culture of aggression.

What We Do

This collaborative circle is the first of its kind at WDN, and we are excited to partner with the Global Fund. Activities to date include:

  • An energizing evening discussion with the Global Fund’s grantee partners from Guam, Brazil, and Colombia working on the frontlines to challenge military expansion in their communities. They discussed how they are using feminist politics to work across borders to resist militarism.
  • An informative education call with Global Fund staff to learn more about how women are confronting militarism around the world.

The Women Confronting Militarism Circle reflects WDN’s key theme of Global and Peace Issues: Highlighting the interconnectedness of all communities and working to ensure that people throughout the world can live in a world free of violence and strife. This is one of our seven key areas of work and study.
