Announcing alicia sanchez gill as the New Emergent Fund Director

Founded in 2016, the Emergent Fund is a partnership between WDN, Solidaire, Threshold Foundation, and the Democracy Alliance. The Fund moves quick resources with no strings attached to communities that were and continue to be under attack by federal policies and priorities – immigrants, women, Muslim and Arab-American communities, Black people, Indigenous communities, LGBTQ communities, and all people of color. The Fund has since become a model in social justice grantmaking.

Now alicia sanchez gill (she/her/hers) is taking the helm as its Director. alicia is a DC-based queer, afrolatinx (afroboricua) survivor and advocate. She is a longtime organizer, advocate, and nonprofit professional, who knows first-hand the power of centering those of us who live at the glorious intersections of multiple marginalized identities in our work of liberation. She has fifteen years of experience in cross-movement organizing grounded in Black, queer feminist theory and lived experience. Read her full bio.

As we welcome alicia, we also want to deeply thank Esther Morales for her dedication to the Fund over the last year. Under her stewardship, the Fund moved more than $1.3 million in urgently needed resources to grassroots, intersectional groups on the ground.
