Abortion Bridge Collaborative Fund

Join us as we bridge and fund fearlessly together.

The June 24th 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Services Supreme Court decision overturned both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, leaving abortion seekers and care providers in an environment fraught with legal ambiguity and dwindling resources.

Post-Dobbs, tens of millions of Americans have already been directly affected: more than half of the states have restricted access severely or completely banned abortion.

The impacts are sweeping and so much is at stake.

The ABC Fund was established to ensure enduring abortion care across the United States by moving money rapidly to build critical and emergent infrastructure to protect and advance reproductive justice nationwide.

GRANTMAKING PRIORITIES

The ABC Fund supports organizations that center reproductive justice in their mission, values, and work as they navigate this new rapidly changing landscape – recognizing immediate needs while also funding the infrastructure necessary to ensure nationwide abortion access in the long term.

ABC Fund is explicitly focusing our support towards work that directly results in increased access to abortion care in communities. Our primary grantmaking priorities fall within the following areas:

  • Strengthening the abortion access ecosystem – including provision, abortion funding, and practical support for abortion seekers
  • Investing in innovation and experimentation – bold and creative work that creates new or alternative pathways to care
  • Expanding the reach of info-sharing efforts nationwide – including information and/or support regarding telehealth, shield law provision, self-managed abortion, etc.

Meet ABC Fund’s Director

Amanda Beatriz Williams is a queer Tejana with more than a decade of experience working in the reproductive justice movement. She is a mother, abortion storyteller, consultant, leadership coach, facilitator, and activist. As ABC Fund’s Director, Amanda brings together a Grantmaking Advisory Council of movement leaders, manages values-centered grantmaking administration, drives strong donor stewardship and fundraising efforts, and co-develops the Fund’s strategic direction. Amanda has been featured in dozens of local and national media platforms and provided expert witness testimony on the harms of the Hyde Amendment in a US Congressional Subcommittee. She was the first executive director of Lilith Fund, Texas’s oldest abortion fund, from 2016-2023.

OUR GRANTMAKERS

ABC Fund’s Grantmaking Advisory Council is comprised of activists, movement leaders, abortion providers, funders, and attorneys from the reproductive rights, health, and justice movements. The Advisory Council identifies organizations and projects engaging in the most critical work delivering abortion care, defending abortion access, and advancing reproductive justice.

In its evaluation, the Grantmaking Advisory Council prioritizes projects & organizations that are:

  • Rooted in community – organization leadership is reflected within the community they serve, has a deep history of community engagement, and/or the work is meaningfully informed by those with lived experiences
  • Commitment to local sustainability – committed to cultivating grassroots fundraising support to ensure longterm sustainability of local ecosystem
  • Financial impact ratio – demonstrating the ability to meaningfully serve clients/patients relative to financial situation
  • Lacking significant investments by institutional philanthropy – does not receive large grant funding from institutional repro funders
  • Operating in geographic areas that lack similar resources – filling key gaps, playing a unique role, and/or offering services in geographic areas where others are not
  • Responsive to the moment – meeting immediate/urgent needs or critical gaps in the existing abortion access ecosystem and/or builds foundational systems and structures required for the medium and long-term

This fund is not designed for larger, more well-resourced organizations nor intended to fund projects by those not already deeply involved in the movement for reproductive justice.

As an initiative of The Women Donors Network, the ABC Fund is well-positioned to respond to this anticipated crisis. WDN is an organization with long-standing investments in the abortion access space and extensive networks within the movements for reproductive health and justice. WDN was made for this moment, and we are ready.

Join us in closing gaps, building critical infrastructure, and laying the groundwork to ensure abortion is accessible now and always.
