Nancy grew up in Washington, DC with four sisters and a brother, and parents who were philanthropic community leaders. The Diane and Norman Bernstein Foundation was her first training ground as a philanthropist and she now serves as a Vice President.
She has an MPH in Environmental and Occupational Health and trained workers about their legal rights to protection from job hazards for many years. As a teenager, she met Yitzhak and Lea Rabin, who were close personal friends of her parents, when Rabin was Israel’s Ambassador to the US. Nancy is Co-Chair of J Street Pittsburgh, serves on the National Board, and is a co-founder of the J Street Women’s Leadership Forum. She is an Advisory Committee member of PA Clean Water Action and is on the Israel Granting Committee for the National Council of Jewish Women.
She has been a member of the Women Donors Network for many years, her second major philanthropic training ground. Nancy has strong interests in climate change, gender-based violence, criminal justice, and values-based investing. Her other passions include women’s political empowerment, the impact of documentary film on changing hearts and minds, folk singing, international travel, family and friends, and the amazing outdoors.
